About Us
AΦE is a pioneering XR dance company founded in 2016 by Aoi Nakamura and Esteban Lecoq. We have toured productions to 20 countries and over 80 venues, collaborating with industry leaders including NVIDIA, Creative Technology, Epson, and Framestore. Our work is supported by prestigious venues including Sadler's Wells Theatre, Sydney Festival, and Théâtre de Chaillot Paris.
A+E Lab is our art and technology hub at Historic Dockyard Chatham, led by AΦE. As an associate artist of the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries/University of Kent, we deliver three key activities:
• Creation of AΦE's innovative productions
• Technology and cultural community engagement programmes
• Presentation and curation of high-quality artistic work
Since 2022, we have created 49 new projects, engaged 2,802 participants, supported 145 artists, and delivered 247 education sessions, positioning A+E Lab as a vibrant cultural hub with international connections in Medway.
Our Mission & Vision
Mission: Our mission is to create and produce innovative productions that tour internationally, with the aim to bring the audience at the centre of the story by merging dance and new technologies. Through A+E Lab, democratise access to new creative technology knowledge and skills, providing support around networking, skill building, business development, and access to space and equipment for artists and researchers working in art and technology.
Vision: Through AΦE’s creation, embody the technology in the age of AI, question human-machine relationship and co-existence and translate human emotions through technology in storytelling. A+E Lab as the space where unique artistic experiences using art and new technologies are developed; a hub where the local community learns digital skills; and a platform where artists, researchers, and experts collaborate on new ideas.
