Who we are

AΦE (AE) is a Medway (UK) based XR dance company founded by Aoi Nakamura and Esteban Lecoq in 2016. Their uniqueness lies in the use of technology to completely reinvent audience participation by touring their productions worldwide. Their productions toured to 15 counties, over 70 venues. They collaborated with high-end technology brands and research institutions such as Scan Computers, NVIDIA, Creative Technology, Epson, Framestore, Happy Finish, Arcade, SPECS-lab and The Scalable Display. In only 6 years, they have established their company as one of the leading dance companies working with technology and garnered the support of some of the most prestigious venues and organisations around the world including Sadler’s Wells Theatre London, Sydney Festival, Théâtre de Chaillot in Paris, Innovate UK and Arts Council England. Their work has also been presented at International Film Festivals including Geneva International Film Festival, CPH:DOX, LAVAL Virtual, VRHAM and LOIKKA International Dance Film Festival. AΦE is an associate artist of the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries – University of Kent (iCCi) and in 2022 they launched A+E Lab, a cultural and technology hub located at Historic Dockyard Chatham, UK, producing innovative productions and delivering community and artist engagement programmes related to technology and culture. Across all their work, they engaged over 101,000 live audiences and participants internationally.

Our creation is a collaborative process bringing professionals from different areas of expertise to achieve one vision.

A+E Lab

AΦE became Associate Artists of the Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (iCCi)/University of Kent and moved into a building within the iCCi at Historic Dockyard Chatham and opened A+E Lab. A+E Lab is home to AΦE and their digital and cultural hub, where they produce innovative productions and deliver creative & new technology programmes to professionals and members of the local community, especially young people, alike.
